Community Foundations are independent philanthropic organizations working in specific geographic areas which, over time, build permanent collections of endowed funds contributed by many donors. With nearly 700 community foundations nationwide holding roughly $35 billion in assets, they make up one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the United States today.

Founded in 2005, The Rockland Community Foundation is a registered, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation governed by a local Board of Directors and an Advisory Board comprised of community leaders.  The Foundation is a unifying element in our community.  All Community Foundations share the common goal of serving donors, non-profit organizations and the community as a whole by encouraging corporate leaders, educators, youth, parents, non-profits, elected officials and the faith community to work toward the common objective of increasing charitable giving.

The cornerstone of the Rockland Community Foundation is to seek and stimulate permanent endowment building and to help ensure that today's and tomorrow's charitable needs in Rockland are met. Our focus is to raise the public consciousness of charitable giving in Rockland to the benefit of all non-profits in Rockland and develop and increase Rockland’s overall capacity to raise private, corporate, public and foundation funds.

The Rockland Community Foundation can help to re-focus and revive existing, dormant or under-performing trusts and foundations. It provides the necessary structure for scholarship accounts and other types of smaller funds to receive donations, planned gifts and bequests. A Community Foundation offers donors many services and benefits by working with families, individuals, attorneys and estate and financial planners to design gift plans that fit every economic situation.

The Rockland Community Foundation Board established the Six Initial Funds. Additional funds continue to be established by individual donors and other groups. Establishing your own named charitable fund does not require wealth and it is not complicated. For new and existing non-profits as well as for donors and philanthropists the Foundation is an ideal and trusted way to realize charitable goals.
